Save time, reduce stress, and get the most out of your showhome visit by using these guidelines.
Choose a part of the city, which may be based on:
- Schools (check school boundaries online with Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools)
- The commute to work
- Nearby amenities like recreation centres, shopping, or parks
- Public transit (nearest transit station, LRT station, or bus routes)
Determine your budget:
- Gather paperwork for a mortgage approval (i.e. mortgage document checklist from CIBC)
- Meet with the bank to find out what you can afford
Choose what type of home suits your budget:
- Townhome
- Duplex
- Single family home with rear detached garage
- Zero lot line home (Skinny Home)
- Single family home with front attached garage
Do your research on the available builders:
- Visit their websites, view their homes, style, and finishes
- Find out if they have won any awards (i.e. through CHBA-ER)
- Ask about other customer’s experiences – neighbours, online reviewers (why did they choose their builder, would they build with them again/recommend them, are they happy with their home?)
